Riot Games Introduces Locke, the Newest League of Legends Champion
June 10, 2026
Riot Games has once again surprised the League of Legends community by unveiling its newest champion, Corvin Locke, better known as Locke the Ashen Exorcist. As the 173rd champion in League of Legends, Locke is introduced as a highly mobile AP assassin with a dark exorcist theme. His arrival is set to be one of the biggest highlights of Patch 26.13, immediately drawing attention from players thanks to his unique character design and compelling backstory.
Locke the Demon Hunter

In League of Legends lore, Locke hails from Demacia and is known as a demon hunter who employs forbidden rituals to reveal the darkness hidden within humanity. Unlike most demon hunters, Locke believes that demons are not the true source of evil in the world. Instead, he sees them as reflections of the darkness that already exists within human hearts. This philosophy shapes him into a ruthless exorcist with a unique perspective on the world of Runeterra.
From a gameplay standpoint, Riot Games has designed Locke as a high-burst AP assassin who relies on careful setup before executing his targets. Riot explained that players must effectively combine his abilities and mark enemies to unlock his full damage potential. When used correctly, Locke can eliminate fragile targets in an instant, but poor execution can leave him highly vulnerable to counterattacks.
Locke’s Gameplay and Abilities
Locke’s kit revolves around the use of Soul Nails, spiritual spikes that serve as the core of his abilities. His skills allow him to mark enemies, slow opponents, gain increased mobility, and perform aggressive dashes to chase down targets. His ultimate ability, Purgatory, serves as his primary finishing tool, enabling him to execute low-health enemies. This makes Locke especially deadly during the mid and late stages of a match.
In addition to showcasing Locke’s abilities, Riot Games also released a cinematic titled “Back from the Brink,” featuring his interaction with Vayne. The video portrays Locke as a demon hunter confronting supernatural threats while also revealing more about his personality as the Ashen Exorcist. The cinematic has further fueled excitement among players ahead of his official release.
Release Date and Future Plans
Locke is scheduled to officially arrive in Patch 26.13, which launches on June 24, 2026. Alongside his debut, Riot Games will release his first skin, High Noon Locke. Riot has confirmed that Locke will be the only new champion released in 2026, as the development team is currently focused on visual and gameplay updates for older champions. The studio is also preparing a major League of Legends project planned for 2027.
With his striking design and fast-paced assassin gameplay, Locke has the potential to become one of the game’s most popular champions. Mid lane players are already eager to test the abilities of the Ashen Exorcist and see how his arrival will impact the evolving meta on Summoner’s Rift.
