The biggest annual League of Legends tournament in the world, the League of Legends World Championship 2024, has officially kicked off. The tournament is being held across England, France, and Germany from September 25 to November 2, 2024.

A total of 20 of the world’s best League of Legends teams will compete for the prestigious Summoner’s Cup and a prize pool of US$2.225 million (approximately IDR 33.6 billion).

LoL World Championship 2024 Format and Schedule

The tournament begins with the Play-In Stage, where eight teams will compete in a double-elimination format. The top four teams will advance to the Swiss Stage.

During the Swiss Stage, 16 teams will play between three and five matches. Teams that secure three victories will advance to the next stage, while teams that accumulate three losses will be eliminated from the tournament.

The remaining eight teams will qualify for the Knockout Stage, where they will battle for the World Championship title.

T1 Remains One of the Favorites to Win Worlds 2024

This year’s World Championship has generated even more excitement with the release of the official anthem, Heavy Is The Crown, performed by Linkin Park. The song marks a special collaboration between Riot Games and the legendary rock band while also paying tribute to Lee Sang-hyeok, better known as Faker, and his remarkable legacy in League of Legends esports.

Faker is widely regarded as the greatest League of Legends player of all time, having won the World Championship four times with T1.

Heading into Worlds 2024, T1 remains one of the tournament favorites. The Korean powerhouse enters the competition as the defending champion after winning the League of Legends World Championship 2023.

However, several other South Korean teams are also considered strong title contenders. T1 struggled to maintain its usual dominance during the 2024 LCK Summer Split, finishing third behind Hanwha Life Esports and Gen.G Esports. As a result, the race for the Summoner’s Cup appears more competitive than ever.
