Known by the title “The Unsundered,” Zaahen expands the roster of Darkin champions—ancient beings filled with immense power and ambition. Designed as an aggressive fighter/bruiser capable of dominating both the top lane and jungle, Zaahen offers a deep and intense playstyle for players who love close-combat duels.

Zaahen’s Lore Background in League of Legends

In League of Legends lore, Zaahen stands apart from other Darkin. He is a Darkin who turned against his own kind during the Great Darkin War. Although he chose to fight alongside humans, he ultimately agreed to be sealed voluntarily after witnessing the destruction caused by the Corrupted Darkin.

Zaahen was born in Shurima, where he rose through the ranks as a respected warrior before eventually ascending into a celestial, eagle-like being. When the Shuriman Empire fell, he was one of the few who remained sane and kept his benevolent nature. Guided by his wisdom, Zaahen traveled to the First Lands to aid the rising resistance, where he eventually met Yunara and Kennen.

When the war ended, Zaahen was brought before the Eye of Twilight for judgment. They recognized his loyalty, sacrifice, and vital role in protecting humanity, granting him the right to return to his homeland. However, despite receiving forgiveness, Zaahen remained fearful of the destructive potential within his true Darkin form. Afraid that he might one day lose control and spark another conflict, he chose to be sealed willingly. Yunara stayed by his side to guard the temple for eternity.

Zaahen’s Abilities and Playstyle

Zaahen possesses five core abilities that define his unique identity on the battlefield:

Passive – Cultivation of War
Zaahen’s attacks and abilities against enemy champions grant stacks of Determination, which provide bonus Attack Damage per stack. When Determination is fully stacked, Zaahen gains increased Attack Damage and can revive.

Q – The Darkin Glaive
Zaahen cleaves twice on his next attack, dealing bonus damage and healing himself. He can recast the ability to empower his next strike with additional damage and knock the target down.

W – Dreaded Return
Zaahen thrusts forward in a direction, dealing damage to enemies hit and pulling them toward him.

E – Aureate Rush
Zaahen dashes to a target location and slashes the area around him.

R – Grim Deliverance
Zaahen leaps into the air, becoming unstoppable, then crashes down with a massive AoE strike that deals damage and heals him based on the damage dealt.

Zaahen Release Date in League of Legends

Zaahen was first tested on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) on November 10, 2025. His official release to global servers is scheduled for November 19, 2025. Patch 25.23 is one of the major updates, also introducing adjustments to the jungle system and several buffs/nerfs for other champions such as Zeri, Jinx, and Hwei.
